Are jobs for Americans in Japan restricted to … – Education Reference

Question by : Are jobs for Americans in Japan restricted to only teaching English?
It?s been 15 years since I last visited Japan, where I lived and worked as an English teacher. I am thinking I would really like to go back there, maybe permanently, but I don?t want to teach English anymore. What about American companies in Japan? I heard that jobs in Information Technology might be a good place for a foreigner to look. Any ideas from anyone please?

They?re not restricted as in it?s your only legal option, but unless you read, write, and speak near-fluent Japanese it?s typically the only likely option for you. Even the foreign countries need people who understand the home culture and language well in order to remain marketable to their Japanese clients.
